Transcendental Meditation teacher and leader Bob Roth explains how to reduce stress using transcendental meditation techniques.

Sunburn. It happens. And when it does, it can be painful, uncomfortable and in need of quick relief. I have tried lotions, gels, coconut oil and treatments. In my experience, even the most natural sunburn creams or gels burn, itch and don’t show healing of my skin.
There is one solution that has worked every time, and I present it to you as the best way to treat and sooth sunburn. Of course, there are varying degrees, so please consult a doctor if you are unsure of the severity of your burn or effects of treatments.
What to Buy:
A pure aloe leaf or aloe vera plant. Yep. Simple. The real thing. Not a cream with aloe or a gel that is 95% aloe. Get the plant itself. It works, without the preservatives, buy it fresh.

Go to your local grocery store and ask for an aloe vera leaf or aloe plant. Aloe or aloe vera, it is the same thing. Don’t mess around with creams that have diluted or preserved versions, just go buy aloe in it’s purest form.
Many grocery stores sell the large aloe leaf in the “Produce” section. I’ve seen them at Whole Foods and Publix grocery stores (under $3.00 for one large leaf). You may also find an aloe plant that you can grow at home, and have when you need it. Call around to your local stores or order online.

How to Use:
1. Slice a small section of an aloe leaf.
carve out the gel portion of the stalk.

2. Rub the pure aloe gel on the affected sunburn areas.
It is a little slimy, and may feel sticky on the skin when it dries, though the stickiness will dissipate.
3. Slice the aloe leaf as needed.
Continue to cover the minor burn or sunburn area of your skin. Use generously, and be careful to preserve the parts of the leaf that you don’t need, so you can save the leaf to use later. It’s best to preserve the aloe gel in the aloe skin until you are ready to use it, rather than carve out the gel and store in a bowl for later use.
4. Reapply later
After covering the infected sunburn with the pure aloe gel, store the unused aloe leaf in the refrigerator for a cool and refreshing application a few hours later, or when needed.
My experience:
Every time I’ve used pure aloe gel form the leaf to treat sunburn or minor burns, I have achieved immediate overnight results. From acquiring extreme sunburn during a spring break in Florida, to treating a minor burn on my hand by grabbing a hot pot handle, (whelps), applying pure aloe gel from the plant itself, made the pain instantly go away, and showed noticeable miraculous healing of my skin. I’ve recommended this to family and friends, and they also have seen results.
Yesterday, a friend spent a day at the beach on a rainy and overcast day. Because of the clouds, she thought it was ok to stay out in the sun longer, without diligently applying sunscreen. She went home to her surprise, with severe sunburn all over her body. She had been googling solutions and was putting vinegar on her sunburn when we spoke, so I advised her to put down the vinegar and grab an aloe leaf from the grocery store, with the above instructions. Today she was in disbelief by the immediate results, and reported that most of the sunburn had faded, and her skin no longer felt uncomfortable. Your skin will love you for it.
take action
While I can’t guarantee that the aloe vera plant will heal you in the same way, it is absolutely the first solution you may want to try if you have sunburn or a minor burn.
Aloe heals the skin.
We would love to hear your experience. Has aloe helped you? If you have another solution or method for using the plant, we would love to hear and learn from you.
Stay safe, wear sunscreen (our favorite natural sunscreens) and protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Especially between the hours of 11am and 3pm.
